Revitalized Medvedev Secures Maiden Championship in Over Two Years
19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard courts
A comeback Medvedev won his maiden trophy for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.
The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-term mentor Cervara.
Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.
It is his first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface from that period of 2023.
Victory also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 various competitions.
"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to get a championship is particularly special," said ranked player the champion.
"This title is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.
The player's defensive strategy and frequent reactions on court had prompted commentators to question if his skill to compete at the top level was over.
Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.
Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.
The competitors traded break points in the following set before the challenger, striving for his first tour title, took control to create a decider.
Moutet defended four early break points in a competitive third set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Appropriately, Medvedev earned victory with a point at the net, with Moutet failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
